Fox News has done it again…This time they put an article by Suzanne Venker on their website titled The War on Men.
What?? Now they’re just making this stuff up.
…Or that’s at least what I would’ve thought before I started this website. Since writing about rape culture, I’ve received A LOT of not only negative feedback, but downright hate mail. These comments so full of rage were from MRAs: Male Rights Activists, a group I had no idea existed until just a few weeks ago. I mean, aren’t they just fighting for what they already have: privilege and rights for everything?
I thought about posting a detailed response, but I don’t think I have the time and energy to point out all the ridiculous and fictitious elements to the article. It’s is incredibly sad and misinformed (Feministing has an amazing response to the article), but also disappointing since it’s written by a woman! How dare she tell men and women to adhere to roles that our culture is jamming down our throats:
“Fortunately, there is good news: women have the power to turn everything around. All they have to do is surrender to their nature – their femininity – and let men surrender to theirs.
If they do, marriageable men will come out of the woodwork.”
Fox News can’t be living in the same world as us…they and the MRAs must have been brainwashed into believing in an alternate reality. I don’t get it.
Okay, just wanted to get that off my chest.
I saw that article too. The gem is that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree; author Suzanne Venker is the niece of the conservative darling Phyllis Schlafly.
I don’t get the logic of changing the way I am in order to appeal to men who wouldn’t consider marriage anyway. Or in financial terms, for the Fox readers, the return is insufficient for the investment.
The quote you picked out of the article could have come straight from one of those “How to be a good wife” books from the 1890s..
Exactly! It left me thinking, ‘what year is it!?’
Been some incredible replies to this fear-mongering propganda by FOX. Dr Hugo Schwyzer’s: http://www.dailylife.com.au/news-and-views/dl-opinion/the-war-on-men-20121127-2a4ok.html
Kimberely Johnson’s: http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/11/25/the-angry-feminist-and-the-war-on-men/ Ben Jenkin’s reply: http://www.dailylife.com.au/news-and-views/are-modern-men-being-silenced-by-women-20121126-2a2s9.html I’m wondering if the likes of Fox et al, will just up the ante for disempowering women, seeing it as their most logical step to get repuglicans back in power. Remember they have little brain power. It would make sense to them. Be prepared for the biggest onslaught of wingnut stupidity can offer.
