More Than Me is a girls’ empowerment non-profit and it’s AMAZING.
This video is so inspiring and so important for people to know. We like to turn a blind eye to how others are forced to live across the globe, and this incredible organization is raising money and awareness for girls that are forced into prostitution just in order to eat and have a roof over their heads.
More Than Me also asked followers on Facebook and Twitter to submit photos of ‘I Am Abigail’ written on their foreheads, highlighting one of the girls that the founder, Katie, met in Liberia. In the video, Katie explains that as uncomfortable as it is to think of an 11 year old girl as a prostitute, this was her reality. And that girl could’ve easily been you or I under different circumstances.
They’re also asking for a simple vote to win one million dollars from NBC’s American Giving Awards (to be aired December 8th 8/7c). TODAY, Dec. 4th IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE!
Please vote, give any amount of money, or help a girl’s life for a whole year by asking for this as a gift this holiday season.
My name is Abigail.
I’m 13-years-old. I live in West Point, Liberia. I don’t know my parents… I was left with prostitutes when I was six-years-old. They took care of me, but life was hard. Often, I didn’t have a place to sleep or food to eat. I never went to school. And I would often sleep at a video club so men could find me and then “rent” me for the night. I was abused, both in my mind and body. I didn’t feel loved.
When I met the people at More Than Me, my life changed. I have a new home now and food to eat. I’m in school now. I’m happy now. I feel like I have a future now. I feel loved. I’ve learned how to bake, which helps me earn extra money.
Please help vote for me so I can continue in this new life and stay in school. Your vote is my future. I’ll do anything to show you that I’ll do my best in school and become something with my life.
